Description

Alfred Cadwell Lilypool, the only son of Cornish immigrants, grew to young manhood on Fenten a Sevien, the family berry farm. The elder Lilypools instilled in young Alfie patience, thrift, and an abiding respect for nature - though none of these virtues were to prove quite as formative to his adult character as the traditional straw-packed Cornish mattress on which the boy was made to sleep after his 12 hour shifts in the fields. When his parents drowned in a freak watering can accident, Alfred donned gray velvet sack cloth and spoke nary a word for two months, per the mourning customs of the ancient Cornish. Then he burned his mattress, sold the strawberry farm, and opened the first Sevien Spring Bedding Company factory with the proceeds.
