IPO costs 1M
Is that a recommended step for new companies, to IPO as soon as possible, or is it better to postpone this until 1M no longer hurts... or does IPO not work at all?

I believe it depends on what you want to do with the company, if you want to raise your personal net worth ipos are good, if you wanted to sell the company to players on the stock market I'm sure you could make a lot of money, I'm not too sure on what the other uses of going public are.

It is a reasonable way to raise money for a small company. The cash from IPO goes into the company, so you can use the cash to grow your business.
