Just ran into the influence wall

Where exactly does influence come from? Is there a way to intentionally generate is quickly? I've never had to look at influence before, but the metals company has both it's own income and my other company's income behind it, so it is very rapidly expanding

I've been working on expanding my mining operation, and it took a good month of hard building, but i'm up to 425 m2. Another few weeks and it should be the biggest here.
