Personally, I see it as the equivalent of using a cheat code which defeats the objective of the game by ruining the aspect of building up from something small, which is what interests me about it.

Whilst I appreciate it was well meant and may have had some other purpose like helping newbies get going quicker, personally I don't want it. I can't see any way for me to transfer it back and buying a bunch of buildings and selling them would be a massive waste of time. How can I get rid of it? I realize I could pretend it's not there and choose to not use it, but I would prefer if it could just be removed from my account.

Would it be possible to add a feature where such "gifts" have to be accepted in future?

HOW TO DISCARD MONEY
---------
Go to B2B - Import
Spend all 3 million on something, anything
go to your warehouse, discard said item

There ya go.

It seems I won't be able to get rid of it

My cash balance yesterday was about $62 NFI where that $62 came from.
+$3,000,000 socialist redistribution
+$2,522.50 share dividends
Current balance $2,732,588.88

WUT

I think cash and net worth are getting mixed up somewhere. I think it used net worth as the balance when buying the shares. Then after the share price dropped due to the pay out, the valuation appears to have been done on the cash balance rather than net worth.

What happens is the player networth calculationis somewhat expensive in terms of # of database queries. It needs to re-value the networth of all private companies you're related to, and the stock price of all public companies in which you own even a single share, and fame and etc.

As for the company networth calculation, it'll need to look into all your warehouse items, your market items, each of your buildings, your research, land, ...

So it'd make no sense to run this equation at every page view. I've limited the networth update to once per day at the daily server reset - when I need to calculate everything else anyways.

For each company, you can hire an appraiser in the cities to calculate your networth at that instant, but it takes a bit of cash.

I hope this answer is helpful.
I was a player, but now I am a developer, I'd like to keep my player optimism as much as I can, but at times I just have to succumb to other factors such as code efficiency and server load and scalability in preparing for a larger player base.

invest it into a research building mate - the research formula has been changed and because your new - its gonna kick you in the ass

No thanks. If the game is imbalanced then the balance should be fixed. If it's not, I'd rather play it as intended. I'm not here for a quick fix.

Scott, I was talking about my cash balance there, not my net worth.

A change in share price should not affect my cash balance.

I thought you were asking about networth.

But yeah, if it's related to cash and stocks, then it must be because the share price goes up when you buy them - and you get charged something higher than the estimated cost when the share price increases.

As for getting rid of your cash, somebody mentioned somewhere else about buying on B2B/Import and discarding the products, I think that'll do nicely.

Sorry, I don't think I'm communicating very well :)

If I have 3M dollars and 5,000 shares with a value of $1M, my net worth would be $4M. If the value of those shares dropped to $750,000, my net worth would drop to $3.75M, but I would still have 3M dollars cash and 5,000 shares.

In my case, I had just over $3M dollars. Then when the value of my shares went down, the quantity of dollars I had was reduced by the amount of value the shares lost. That makes no sense to me and is surely a bug. Because of this bug I cannot get rid of the $3M because I now have less than $3M cash.

Looking in the logs, you spent a total of $999,933.62 to buy 5045 shares of JOI, and it's paying out $0.50 per share dividend.

So you should have $2522.50 dividend.

Back-tracking:
$2,732,588.88 - $2,522.50 + $999,933.62 = $3,730,000.00

Yup... I know what the problem is now. I gave out that $3mil in 2 batches, 1 as $300,000, another as $2,700,000 because I realized the first was missing a 0... But apparently I've missed 2 zeros. Will give out another $270,000.00 as correction.
