Suggestion: even more abstract 'relative' quality

Quality of each item researched could decelrease at a costant rate, like one point per day.

That would drive down the world average and prune older companies of research they don't need anymore because they shifted production.

It allows complex ramifications with the new average driven research cost

Despite the low rating this post and thread has i kinda support this, if the server is never reset then eventually we'll end up with certain companies with max level research and lots of factories/money/capital/etc.
new players could very quickly get to high research levels with teh current research system, but the game would still reach a cap.
If research was something like advertising and required constant upkeep then it would encourage specialisation rather than just grabbing whatever research is cheapest and fastest that you may in future need.
Also it might bettter simulate the real world where there is technically no absolute technology cap as things will always be improved or changed and research is more about reaching parity with market leaders.
